Wizards' Bradley Beal debunks Twitter report indicating he will decline his player option as NBA free agency looms

The NBA summer is now formally underway as news and rumours about player movement inside the league circulate.

Bradley Beal will to decline his $36.4 million player option for the upcoming season and sign with an unrestricted free agent, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Beal, though, quickly disproved the report's veracity on Twitter minutes after it surfaced.

Beal, who joined the Wizards in 2019 and signed a two-year, $72 million extension, is eligible for a five-year, $248 million contract with the team, which would rank among the highest salaries in the league.

Beal claimed to have made up his mind about continuing to play in a June 18 interview with The Athletic, but he would not say what that choice was.

Despite just making one postseason appearance over the previous four seasons, the 28-year-old has developed into the face of the team that selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draught.
