Wednesday marks the 248th birthday of the United States Army, which was established on June 14, 1775.
The Continental Army, the oldest of the six military departments, was established in the midst of the Revolutionary War by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress. What started as a dispersed group of British colonists has since expanded into a worldwide enterprise with more than 463,000 active duty service members.
The national capital region will continue to host celebrations through Wednesday. They got started on Saturday at the National Museum of the U.S. Army in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
The public is invited to attend the free, annual Army Birthday wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 9 a.m. A cake-cutting and reenlistment ceremony will take place in the Pentagon at 11:30. At 7 o'clock in the evening, soldiers from the ceremonial units of the Military District of Washington will perform a military spectacle at Summerall Field on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia.

According to the Army website, the Washington Nationals will honour U.S. Army Day on Friday with pregame performances and appearances by Army officers. Tickets for the game against the visiting Miami Marlins can be bought at Nationals Park or on the Nationals website. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Tickets are necessary, however both the museum and the event are free to attend. All ages of guests can participate in the events. The museum is situated on a portion of Fort Belvoir that is open to the public.
The celebration will include demonstrations of Army vehicles and equipment, a bouncy house that is inflatable, games, and much more. The 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the Golden Knights aerial show, the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," and the U.S. Army Drill Team are just a few of the exciting live military events taking place at the new Warriors' Field, one of the country's premier outdoor entertainment venues.
There will be food and drink vendors outside and an indoor museum café. Limited quantities of Army birthday cupcakes and a 2023 festival memento will be offered to visitors.
For 248 years, U.S. Army soldiers have transformed challenges into opportunities that have aided in the development of our country and the defence of American principles.
